According to the American Society of Reproductive Medicine women under the age of 35 should get the test done after trying conceiving for a year and women above the age of 35 should get them done after trying to conceive for six months.

Some couples also get the test done before they plan a baby. This gives them the assurance that everything is fine or if there is some problem they can get an early solution to it.
